Telephonic Interview Experience – STMicroelectronics

Hey Everyone. This is my telephonic interview experience at STMicroelectronics for the position of an intern. I received a called from STM in the morning. I greeted the interviewer with a good morning and the interview started with asking about me. Then he asked me about what I had done in my four years of B.Tech apart from the regular curriculum.

I told him about me being the robotics coordinator of my college, about the competitions I had participated in and then about my trainings and intership. He asked me about my training at Mentor Graphics.

I told him about the training, and that I had learnt about Verilog and System Verilog there. I also told him that the main focus of the program was verification of designs but it included designing as well. He seemed to be happy and a little more excited after this.

He then asked me about my academic projects. I told him about my projects and that one of my projects included work done on a Cadence tool: Virtuoso. He asked me about the simulator used in Virtuoso. I got a little nervous as I didn’t know that. The answer was Spectre Circuit simulator. He comforted me a bit and then asked me about what all I had learnt from my project and how do I think it would help me.

He then asked to define pi. I told him that the ratio of circumference of any circle to its diameter would define pi. He seemed to be very happy about this answer and he told me that this was the correct answer. He then asked me to define mass in a similar way. He asked me whether “1” is composite or prime.

He then made me draw an inverter with the pmos and nmos swapped and asked me what difference it would make to the output. I told him the answer and how there would not be pure zero and pure one transmission in this case. He then asked me what would be the region of maximum current in an inverter. I answered correctly. He seemed to be very happy after this. Then he asked me some other questions on CMOS.

He then told me about the profile they were recruiting for and if I would be able to take up the challenge. I replied in positive. By then I was pretty sure I would get through the interview. Then I greeted him thank you and the interview was over. The results came out in a few days and the result was positive.

I would recommend students opting for this to be strong with the basics of VLSI and CMOS. Be confident and perform well. The results would always be in your favor. Thank you and All the Best. 🙂
